The OKC Mets Homeschool Sports
Oklahoma City's homeschool baseball and softball organization. Established in 2023.
Our History-
The Oklahoma City Mets (OKC METRO HOMESCHOOL SPORTS (dba.. OKC METS)) homeschool baseball and softball programs were founded in 2023 after extensive work with other organizations throughout the Oklahoma City Homeschool and Private Sports Community.
The Mets derived their name from the 1904 Oklahoma City Mets who were the first minor league baseball team in the city of Oklahoma City. The goal is to offer a Gospel-centered competitive school ball programs for homeschooled athletes where personal development is just as important as winning.
The Oklahoma City Mets currently have their own homeschool sports complex being developed in Moore, OK. It will house home games and practices for the homeschool baseball and softball programs, as well as tournaments, and in the future an indoor all-year baseball and softball facility for Fall and Winter workouts.
The OKC Mets strive to operate in accordance with the Oklahoma Secondary Schools Athletic Association also known as the OSSAA. By following these operating principles it places the Mets organization in the same category as other long-standing school ball teams in regards to sportsmanship and integrity.
The OKC Mets are a non-profit organization registered in the state of Oklahoma. In keeping with the law of the State of Oklahoma, the Mets are governed by a board of directors which has been established to ensure accountability for players, coaches, parents, and board members in compliance with the bylaws of the organization.
Our Purpose-
We believe one of the greatest needs in our society today is for young men grounded in the gospel and committed to Christian character. We exist to develop boys into me who:
Love God
Respect Themselves
Help Others
Never Give up
Our Process-
We accomplish this purpose through a rigorous program focused on:
Spiritual Commitment- players complete seasonal devotions designed and provided by the board; coaches encourage player to preactice leadership through prayer before and after practices/games.
Mental Toughness- coaches teach Jay Johnson’s philosophy of “how to win awareness”; band of brothers mentality; coaches offer honest assessments of player readiness to encourage realistic expectations and commitment to improvement; no transfer of blame.
Fundamental Soundness- fall and spring training are organizaed around offensive and defensive skills that are taught, demonstrated, practiced, corrected, repeated, then put into play.
Athletic Competitiveness- coaches prioritize development and Christian character while also setting clear goals for how each team will win; annual training program and fall/spring inter-squads and games provide opportunities for success.
Our Results-
We produce teams that compete to the final out of every game and players that, depending on their desire and direction, may go on to play collegiate baseball.
